Cojot: Top-level product development is the key to success

COJOT has more than 20 years

Date: Issue 18 - October 2009

COJOT’s customers represent the defence industry, military contractors and various countries’ defence and security forces. Some 90 percent of the production is exported worldwide. Today, its products are in use in many NATO countries.
In addition to antennas for military manpack, man portable and vehicle applications, COJOT’s product range covers civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) and civil authority TETRA applications. This set of products is complemented by a wide selection of accessories, including filters, power dividers, antenna extenders and special mounting solutions.
“Our key products are centred around C3I (Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence) and Electronic Countermeasure applications. We have developed antenna solutions for jammers, which are used in crisis areas in order to prevent the detonation of Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs),” explains Managing Director, Samu Lentonen.
According to Lentonen, antenna technology is being continuously improved in terms of both performance and environmental requirements.
“Firstly, the systems used are setting higher requirements: transmission power is growing while the frequency bands used expand. On the other hand, end-users want to get rid of obtrusive, high-profile antennas,” says Lentonen, crystallising the current antenna design challenges.
Top-level product development is the key to success of an antenna specialist. In addition to advanced simulation tools, various test and measurement equipment, COJOT’s own research laboratory is using a broad range of external test facilities.
“From the customer’s perspective, the antenna’s performance in the environment in which it is deployed is decisive when choosing a supplier,” Lentonen states.
Very short ‘concept to market’ and individual services in the design and production of tailored products are other of COJOT’s strengths.
