Date: Issue 130 - May 2024

After launching the first 76m Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) for the Nigerian Navy on October 26, 2023, Dearsan Shipyard successfully launched the second vessel on April 19, 2024. This launch marks a major step in enhancing Nigeria's maritime defence and security capabilities. The event was graced by the presence of Her Excellency the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Remi Tinubu, Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, underscoring the importance of this milestone for Nigeria's naval operations.

The journey to this significant achievement began with the Nigerian Navy's decision to partner with Dearsan Shipyard. The signing of the Contract on November 3, 2021, marked the start of a collaborative effort to enhance Nigeria's maritime defense capabilities. Dearsan Shipyard began constructing the vessel on September 16, 2022, and launched the first 76m Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) for the Nigerian Navy on October 26, 2023, and it has now come to fruition with the successful second vessel launch.
