Launch of PNS KHAIBAR Corvette, Keel-Laying of AKHISAR’s First Block, and Steel Cutting of KOÇHISAR

The KHAIBAR (282) Corvette, the third ship constructed as part of the Pakistan Navy MILGEM (PN-MILGEM) Project, which is the largest defense industry export project under a single contract in the history of the Republic of Türkiye and realized by ASFAT (Main Contractor), was launched on November 25, 2022, with a ceremony held at Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command. The P-1220 AKHISAR Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV)’s keel-laying ceremony and the P-1221 KOÇHİSAR OPV’s steel-cutting ceremony were also held during the ceremony. Both vessels were constructed as part of Phase 1 of the Offshore Patrol Vessel (ADKG - OPV) Project, which was initiated under the coordination of the Ministry of National Defense (MoND) and again realized by ASFAT within the framework of the needs of the Turkish Naval Force Command.

At the ceremony hosted by the Ministry of National Defense (MoND), Rear Admiral Recep Erdinç YETKİN, Commander of Istanbul Shipyard, took the floor first and provided details on both the Pakistan Navy's (PN) MILGEM and the Turkish Navy's Offshore Patrol Vessel Project. Afterwards, Esad AKGÜN, CEO of ASFAT, Admiral Ercüment TATLIOĞLU, Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces, Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan NIAZI, Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Navy, Hulusi AKAR, Minister of National Defense, Sardar Muhammad Israr TAREEN, Minister of Defense Production of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz SHARIF, Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, President of the Republic of Türkiye delivered speeches.

Following the speeches, the keel of the 1st ship of the Offshore Patrol Ship Project, AKHISAR, was laid, and the steel cutting of the 2nd ship, KOÇHISAR was made. The 3rd ship PNS KHAIBAR, built under the PN-MILGEM Project, was launched after the guests’ photo session.
