Pirireis is Capable of Accomplishing Any Mission Anywhere in the World at Any Time!

During our visit to the Submarine Fleet Command on December 14, 2023, our first stop was the Headquarters building, where we had a special conversation with Rear Admiral (RDML) Timur YILMAZ, the Commander of the Submarine Fleet. Following this, we proceeded to the Gölcük Naval Shipyard as our second destination to visit the Pirireis Submarine. Here, we found the REİS Class (Type 214TN) Pirireis Submarine, currently undergoing preparations for the next sea trial as part of the ongoing Sea Acceptance Tests (SAT), docked right behind its sister, the Hızırreis Submarine, which was launched on May 25, 2023. We first toured the Pirireis Submarine and obtained first-hand information about both its technical specifications and the new capabilities it will bring to the Submarine Fleet. Subsequently, we had brief discussions with Captain (CAPT) Necati KARACA, the captain of the Pirireis, and the ship`s personnel (Pirireis Chief Engineer and Master Chief Petty Officer).

Defence Turkey: What are the main duties of a submarine commander?

Captain Necati KARACA: Since my main duty is to keep my submarine ready for war at all times, I actively perform the guiding and supervisory duty in personnel, training and material matters. Our main duty is to be always ready for war to help protect Türkiye’s maritime rights and interests in the surrounding seas. For this purpose, we participate in single ship training, tactical training, and exercises.
