STM SIGNED VERTICAL WIND TUNNEL PROCUREMENT PROGRAM

A signature ceremony was held in STM pavillion at IDEF-2007 International Defense Industry Fair on May 24, 2007 for the Special Forces Command, Vertical Wind Tunnel Procurement Program.

In scope of the Vertical Wind Tunnel Procurement Program contract will be realized domestic design and program deliveries will be planned within March 2008 . In order to meet using of parachute training requirement of the Special Forces Command. Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.S (STM) is assigned main contractor of this program.
The first wind tunnel agreement was signed between SSM and STM. An agreement was signed between the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry(SSM) and Savunma Teknolojileri Muhendislik ve Ticaret ( STM) for putting into force of the first vertical wind tunnel project of Turkey. The agreement in question was signed by STM General Directorate Recep Barut, and SSM Deputy Undersecretary Faruk Ozlu, in the ceremony held under the scope of IDEF 2007 Defense Industry Fair.
The Vertical Wind Tunnel, which will be onstructed by STM as the first time in Turkey, will be established in the facilities of Turkish Armed Forces, and it will not only be used in Turkish Armed Forces, but also in free fall training of all parachute staff of Turkish Air Institution. With its flight area of 4 meters, the Vertical Wind Tunnel, which will be constructed by STM, is not only the greatest fits similar examples for civil purposes overall the world, but also its examples for military purposes. With the air speed of 72 m/s to be obtained, it will provide performance sufficient to enable a fully equipped parachuter, weighed 160kg, to make free fall maneuver Savunma Teknolojileri Muhendislik ve Ticaret A.S (STM), was assigned as the Main Contractor by the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry (SSM) for realizing the project of the first Vertical Wind Tunnel project of Turkey, which will be stablished in the Special Forces Command Site, and which will not only be used in Turkish Armed Forces, but also in free fall training of all parachute staff of Turkish Air Institution
