KARGI Makes Debut in EFES 2022

The KARGI loitering munition which is developed by Turkish defence company LENTATEK with the support of TÜBİTAK and Aselsan to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, was unveiled at EFES Combined Joint Live-Fire Exercise 2022 (EFES`22) for the first time.

Date: June 07, 2022

Developed entirely with domestic and national resources, the KARGI project is designed to suppress and destroy hostile radar and surface-to-air missile systems in the enemy integrated air defense systems. KARGI was also planned to be launched from compressed launchers with rocket-assisted takeoff (RATO) technique like the Harpy and Harop Attack Drones. The developed system was required to have technical features similar to the Harpy loitering munition, and a more effective warhead with some additional features that increase utilization flexibility and operational efficiency was intended to be incorporated. As in the Harpy System, the system was planned to be carried on a tactical wheeled vehicle (12 per vehicle) and similarly launched from the launcher. KARGI will be superior to Harpy in many respects and will have similar capabilities with Harop. The KARGI loitering muntion made its first flight in 2018 and stayed in the air for 6 hours.

The KARGI Project was initiated by the TÜBİTAK Defense and Security Technologies Research Grant Committee (SAVTAG) within the scope of the TÜBİTAK Support Program for Research Projects of Public Institutions (1007) in order to develop a long-range loitering munition which will replace the Harpy platform in the inventory, but the critical components of which are indigenous by Turkish Companies.

It is expected that the ongoing acceptance phase activities will be completed in the third quarter of 2022 and the serial production phase will be started by the end of the year.
